Another queer in Baku is threatened by their uncle – police are not taking the allegations seriously

Another queer living in Baku claims that 15 November, they were forcibly pushed into a car and taken away by his uncle, Subhan Mahmudov Tofiq oglu, along with another individual.

The victim told Qıy Vaar! that the incident took place in the central area of the residential complex, right in front of residents, the superintendent, and a police post. Ruslan (a pseudonym. they/them) says that when they were forced into the car, physical force was used on them for several minutes. Although they screamed for help, no one intervened.

According to Ruslan, they have been continuously followed by relatives in recent days.

Inside the car, they were subjected to physical pressure, humiliation, insults, and particularly d*ath threats. Those attempting to abduct them accused Ruslan of “not being a normal person” and of “tarnishing their name,” openly telling: “If you continue in this way, we will k*ll you.” They also tried to cut Ruslan’s hair by force.

To escape the situation, Ruslan felt compelled in that moment to ask them for one day of reprieve, and only this way they were able to get away from them. However, their uncle said he would return again in one day.

The victim’s uncle, Subhan Mahmudov, mockingly told Ruslan that he learned their location through his contacts in the police, and that even if you filed a complaint, nothing would happen. It should be noted that their uncle is a former police officer.

Today, Ruslan filed a complaint with the Absheron District Police Department, but the officers dismissed the matter and sent them home. Ruslan says the police tried to convince me that the situation was not serious.

We call on the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Absheron Police Department to investigate the allegations and ensure the victim’s safety. We ask for the support of the public and the media.
